The History of Rock

| |

This was one of those shows where you really do not know what to expect but you take a chance and you are blown away!!

I entered the auditorium and took my seat, there were three raised platforms for the drummer, keyboard player and the other must be for the bassist, I thought, plenty of guitars on stage, mmmmmm, the set-up looks promising.

A quick puff from the smoke machine to add to the atmosphere and The History of Rock Show opened with Guns ‘n’ Roses ‘Welcome to the Jungle’  – and it was impressive!

After the second song, Lenny Kravitz ‘Are You Gonna Go My Way’,  there was a quick ‘Hello’ from the singer Raz and we were straight into ‘Hammer To Fall’ by Queen followed by ‘Smart Dressed Man’ by ZZ Top.

We were introduced to the members of the band quite early on in the show, Raz allowed them some showcasing time which the audience enjoyed as we were confident in the talent and excited for what more was to come.

Bon Jovi ‘Dead or Alive’ started with the Raz on acoustic guitar and then the other instruments came in to make full dramatic sound. After a bit of Thin Lizzie, things went heavier with Metallica’s ‘Enter Sandman’.

This show is the ultimate fantasy rock festival line-up with Led Zeppelin headlining, therefore after a great range including Deep Purple, AC/DC, The Who, Black Sabbath, Aerosmith and Lynyrd Skynyrd, we had a string on Led Zeppelin tracts which of course included ‘Whole Lotta Love’, ‘Rock and Roll’ and a phenomenal ‘Stairway to Heaven’.

Lead singer, Raz was very charismatic and engaging and although there wasn’t too much chat as it was back to back tracks to make the most of the night, he was able to get the crowd going, cheering and clapping and joining in. He had a fabulously versatile voice with a great rock tone and he looked like he was able to sing all these songs with ease. He had the talent to sing with a gravelly rock voice, his high tones were clean and strong as well as manging the low tones. Even his rock screaming was in tune.

He wasn’t trying to emulate the original singers, it was all a celebration of this fabulous music and playing great songs with your mates. The band were fabulously talented and each one was essential in making the show what it was. I appreciated how much they were clearly enjoying themselves with this music, but how they were all gracious with each other when doing solos. Particularly the lead singer, who due to being so charismatic was showing genuine appreciation to his fellow band members

Due to the phenomenal talent on stage, we were treated to some instrumental work with the drummer and the two guitarist …. it was superb. And then the guitarists left the stage and we were honoured to be treated to an astonishing drum solo which lasted over six minutes. What an utter treat – she was incredible.

The amazing light show added to the atmosphere and energy in the room which was off the scale. This was an enjoyable show listening to talented musicians playing fantastic rock music! I loved it.
